Men's Tennis Vs. Benedict

The Pioneers men's tennis team recently traveled to Columbia S.C. to play The Benedict College Tigers in a dual match. The match was played in cool blustery conditions, with winds topping out at 30mph. The final result was The Tigers besting The Pioneers by a final score of 8-1. The match was senior day for Benedict, who is led by their fine Coach Gary Taylor.

The highlight of the match was the play of SMCs number one player Hufelder Duarte vs. Benedict's Nate Pinkney. In a very well played, hard fought tussle, Duarte prevailed in a third set super breaker, 10-3. This was the second time Duarte had defeated Pinkney this year. Pinkney won the first set 6-3 and then Duarte took the second set by a score of 7-5.
