Caleb Spears Represents SMC & Team USA on Mission Based Wrestling Trip to Kazakhstan

Spartanburg Methodist 174lber, Caleb Spears (Rutherfordton, NC) spent 15 days overseas in Kazakhstan representing Spartanburg Methodist College & Team USA on a mission based wrestling trip with some of the top wrestlers in our country. Caleb got to both spread his faith and a chance to wrestle against other countries top wrestlers.

 

Athletes in Action (AIA) took together a team of wrestlers which includes some the most high profile wrestlers in our country: Brett Valesquez (St. Cloud St. National Champ), Anthony Ashnault (Rutgers multiple All-American) Seth Gross (SDSU National Champ), Anthony Levalle (Missouri All-American) and more. Caleb Spears was chosen to represent at the 79kg weight class. Wrestling in the Olympic styles of wrestling (Freestyle/Greco), Caleb managed to win a few matches along the way.

 

According to the Athletes in Action website the mission of AIA is to build spiritual movements everywhere through the platform of sports (wrestling) so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus. AIA believes that sports have the power to open doors and create connections in a way that few other things can.
