Day Three: Student-Athlete Blog

Freshman Soccer player Kajsa Mertens writes about day 3 of preseason!

Today we started with breakfast, however, we got to meet at 8:30 instead of 8:00! After breakfast everyone went back to their dorms and got ready for church. This morning we were to attend church with Coach. We dressed in our blue Polo's and nice pants. The service was good and I think the church was happy to see all of us there! Once we got back to the campus we had practice at 1. This was by far the hottest practice we have had. The first thing we did was a balancing drill. You would stand on one foot on a foam pad and volley the ball to your partner. Although some made it look easy, it was not. This is something that I think a lot of us could work on. In a game this would help us to not be pushed off the ball. After this we did our usual warm up and stretching. After this was completed we did box passing. This worked on our first touch, diagonal balls, and looking up before passing. Once done with this drill we moved into possession. This helps to get connected and works on communication. Finally we finished with a shooting drill. The drill had three balls at three different locations of the 18 yard box. There were six attackers and two defenders. The idea of this drill was for the defense to press quickly and for the offense to shoot quickly. It was a high intensity game but fun! We ended with some stretching and then abs. To all of our surprise, we had the rest of the day off!! Some went to the pool and others just hangout. I for one went home to see my pup. No matter what we did, I think we all enjoyed the rest of the day off!
