Volleyball Finishes 2-2 in SMC Invitational

After the two day home tournament, the Pioneers start the season 2-2. The girls came out strong with a sweep against Bryant and Stratton College. Unfortunately, the momentum wasn't enough when the Pioneers faced 16th ranked opponent Wallace State and lost in straight sets. Saturday morning the Pioneers faced St. Johns River State and although they battled, came up short in a three set match. However, they bounced back for the 5 o'clock match against Walter's State.

After starting pretty slow against Walter's State in the first set, the Pioneers started to pick it up, but it was too late to come. The second and third sets were much better as the Pioneers carried the momentum and were in control the whole time. To close the game in the fourth set, the Pioneers were in the lead but the Walter's State Lady Senators did not quit fighting and took it to a fifth deciding game. With a close fifth set, sophomore Claudia Casey ended the match with a kill to win the match 15-13.

"I'm really proud of how we grew as individuals and a team this weekend. We have a long way to go but I am excited to get back in the gym with these girls!" - Coach Zimmerman

The Pioneers will be back in action Tuesday August 28th as they travel to Catawba Valley for a tri-match.
