Pioneers Grow at Wake Tech Tournament

The Pioneers went 2-2 this past weekend as they traveled to Raleigh, NC to play at Wake Tech Community College. The team started off with a win in four sets against Johnson and Whales Friday morning. But then fell to Walter's State in four, a team they beat in five sets at the SMC Invitational. Going into Saturday the focus of the day was to have fun and play as a team. The girls did just that. Winning the first match of the day against the host team, Wake Tech and battling it out with conference rivals Richard Bland. The Pioneers came back from an 0-2 deficit against Richard Bland to take it to a fifth set. After great playing, the Pioneers came up short and lost 13-15. They will play Richard Bland again on September 29th at Richard Bland.

"I'm really proud of how the girls played on Saturday. They decided to play together and enjoy the game. We have been talking a lot about what it means to play together and how to be an effective communicator on the court, and I think we really improved in that area this weekend. I'm excited about the improvements our setters made this week, Kameron Neese and Savannah Ducote. They are both growing in their strategic play calls and how to see the court. It was great to have Claudia Casey back after a few games out due to a concussion, she is a huge leader and contributor to this team. Lastly, our Libero for the weekend Leslie Williams did a fantastic job running the back row. Really proud of her leadership and tenacity."

The Pioneer next match is against Reinhardt's JV team at home, Thursday September 13.
