Pioneers Go 1-1 at Davidson County Tri-Match

The Pioneers Volleyball team traveled to Davidson County Community College Thursday to play Catawba Valley and Davidson County.

The Pioneers dropped the first match to Catawba Valley Red Hawks. The Pioneers came out slow in the first set, starting down 0-7. Molly Mather led the Pioneers with 6 kills hitting .385. Both middle blockers, Claudia Casey and Ally Ruiz added 5 kills with a .400 hitting percentage.

Immediately following the loss with Catawba Valley, the Pioneers had to bounce back to play the home team Davidson County. With a little fire under their belts, the Pioneers won the match with scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-14. Claudia Casey was the player of that match, leading the Pioneers with 12 kills, 8 aces, 2 solo blocks, a block assist, and added 1 dig. Quinna White added another 6 kills to the match followed by Ruiz and Mather with 5 each.

"I'm thankful we were able to bounce back and get a win. I know they have it in them to compete and play at a higher level and it will come. More preparation in practice will produce repetitions of consistency to be shown in games. Our defense is getting set which should allow our setters to run the offense more effectively." Coach Zimmerman stated.

The Pioneers will travel to Virginia on Saturday to take on Region X rival Richard Bland. Winner of the match receives the number 1 seed in the region tournament on October 27th.
