Wrestling Kicks Off Year With Annual Intra-Squad Scrimmage

The SMC wrestling team kicks off their year with their annual Intra-Squad Scrimmage that saw ten different match-ups between teammates that were battling for their spot in the lineup. The match-ups listed below included a few NJCAA National Qualifiers and one Returning All-American in Tramon Jenkins. Seven of the wrestlers were transfers from other schools.

141lbs Brandon Harris (Greensboro, NC) won by Major Decision against Arthur James (Johnson City, TN)

149lbs Chris Hudgens (Charleston, SC) won by decision against Jamal Brannon (Winston-Salem, NC)

157lbs Victor Tello (Greer, SC) won by Fall against Timothy Land (Irmo, SC) in 2:18

165lbs Caleb Spears (Rutherfordton, NC) won by decision against Gabriel Gonzalez (Deltona, FL) 12-5

165lbs JD Harrelson (Goose Creek, SC) won by decision over Caleb Reid (Laurens, SC) 9-6

174lbs Camden Johnson (McDonough, GA) won by decision against Austin Mosley (Kings Mountain, NC) 14-12

197lbs Cooper Kaminsky (Beaufort, SC) won by fall over Tre' Storey (Bainbridge, GA) in 4:41

285lbs Zion Robinson-Kearse (Greenville, SC) won in SV-1 against McKenzie Lewis (Yulee, FL)

Full 2018-2019 Wrestling Schedule

 

SMC look to improve on their Top 20 team finish last year. The Pioneers have 5 returning National Qualifiers (Tramon Jenkins, Tramone Jenkins, Brandon Harris, Caleb Spears, and Andrew Wade) and 1 Returning All-American (Tramon Jenkins). The wrestlers returning had a combined collegiate record of 115-61 (65% win record). 19 out of 26.5 team points at the NJCAA tournament will be returning looking to better their finish. Lastly the lineup will consist in a U23 Greco All-American (Caleb Spears).
