Women's Soccer Finishes 2nd In Region X Tournament

The Lady Pioneers played a long weekend in Allendale, SC where USC Salkehatchie hosted the 2018 NJCAA Region X Tournament.  SMC first played USC Salkehatchie in the semifinal game on Saturday.  In a game that was very one sided with shot attempts. SMC had a 28-1 advantage, but in the end, the game was tied at 0-0. During the penalty kicks SMC ended up on top.  The Lady Pioneers made 3 of their 4 attempts. Sophomore forward Elizabeth McGee (Gaston, SC), sophomore forward Cailyn Marietti (Charleston, SC) and freshman midfielder Kass Young (Greer, SC) made all of their shots. Goalkeeper Isabelle Dyckes (Fort Mill, SC) made a big save on USC Salks first attempt to set the tone in the penalty kicks allowing only 1 goal in 4 attempts.

In the Region x Final, the Pioneers took on #14 Cape Fear. The first half both teams were unable to capitalize and ended the half scoreless. However in the second half Cape Fear came out with new life and scored twice in the first 10 minute of the second half.  The Pioneers closed the gap and scored within the last 5 minutes of the game by Forward Brionna Mack (Swansea, SC) on an assist from Kass Young. Unfortunately the Pioneers could not find their way into the net again as the game would end 2-1 with the Pioneers finishing in second place in the Region X tournament.
