Fitness Center Rules and Policies

No food, drinks, smoking, dipping or chewing tobacco products is allowed in weight room area.  In addition, all participants can not wear open toe shoes or be barefoot in the weight room. No bags are allowed in the weight room.

  • All workout participants using the weight room must be dressed in workout clothing (no exceptions). Shoes are required: tennis, jogging, basketball, or aerobic shoes. Shirts must be worn at all times.
  • All equipment must be replaced in the weight racks after use.
  • Weight plates are to be moved from the rack to the bars only. Weight plates are never to be set on the floor.
  • All bars should be stripped immediately after use.
  • Do not move any equipment (benches, machines, weight racks, etc.) from the weight room.


WARNING: FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THESE RULES WILL RESULT IN THE SUSPENSION OF THE OFFENDER'S PRIVILEGE OF USING THE WEIGHT ROOM AREA.

THE WEIGHT ROOM IS FOR USE BY CURRENTLY ENROLLED SMC ATHLETES ONLY:

  • A spotter must be used when working with heavy free weights.
  • Weight belts are recommended for support of lifter's back when using any of the free weights or weight machines during heavy lifting that puts stress or strain on the lifter's lower back.
  • An orientation to the use of the equipment and proper lifting techniques for the free weights and various other weight room equipment is available by contacting the Fitness Center Director.
  • It is understood that most of the time there will be no supervision provided and that there are inherent dangers in the unsupervised use of free weights, weight machines, and training activities.


WARNING: SERIOUS INJURY CAN OCCUR IF STRUCK BY FALLING WEIGHTS OR OTHER MOVING PARTS. YOU ASSUME A RISK OR INJURY USING THIS TYPE OF EQUIPMENT. THE RISK CAN BE REDUCED BY ALWAYS FOLLOWING THESE SIMPLE RULES. PARKER COLLEGE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INJURIES SUSTAINED FROM USE OF THE WEIGHT ROOM FACILITY.

  • Persons with serious medical conditions should consult their physician before using weight equipment.
  • To reduce the chance of injury, keep head and limbs clear of weights and moving parts at all times. (Do not be careless. Stay alert.)
  • Maintain at least a 5-inch clearance between head and weight stacks in bench work.
  • If weight, pulleys, or other parts become jammed, do not attempt to free by yourself as weights may fall unexpectedly - obtain supervisory assistance immediately.


YOU WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES DUE TO MISUSE OF WEIGHT ROOM OR EQUIPMENT. FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THESE REGULATIONS WILL RESULT IN THE SUSPENSION OF YOUR PRIVILEGE OF USING THE WEIGHT ROOM AREA - NOT TO MENTION SERIOUS INJURY THAT COULD OCCUR.
