Women's Soccer Continues Skid Against the Pioneers

On a clear Thursday evening, the Emory Oxford women's soccer team played the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist. The Eagles would fall 4-1. 

Sophomore Maria Tsakalakos scored the lone goal for Emory Oxford off a free kick. This was her second goal of the year. 

The Eagles would find themselves down in the first half, giving up two goals to Spartanburg. The Pioneers would score in the 16th and 22nd minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the break. After halftime, the Pioneers would add two more goals in the 66th and 74th minutes to take a demanding 4-0 lead. The Eagles would score in the 82nd minute after drawing a foul that resulted in the Tsakalakos free kick. 

Match Facts:

  • The Eagles were outshot 29 to 13.
  • Sophomore Ayaka Smart started on goal in the first half and ended up with seven saves. 
  • This was Tsakalakos' second time scoring from a free kick in the season. 

Next, the Eagles will play Andrew College at home on Saturday, September 15. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM.
