Baseball 1-3 in weekend series

Baseball goes 1-3 in weekend series against Spartanburg Methodist College to move to 13-6 on the season.

In game one the Hurricanes were able to score 7 in the 2ndand 5 in the 3rd to win 12-2 in 5 innings. Dawson Painter, Trendon Craig, and Jonah Beamon all hit homeruns. Jack Dragum also had two RBIs.

Tyler Shepherd (4-0) was the winning pitcher. He gave up 2 runs in 5 innings on two homeruns.

In game two Spartanburg Methodist took a four run lead in the 4thand the Hurricanes never recovered as Jack Dragum recorded his first loss of the season. He gave up 6 runs on 8 hits in four innings of work.

Trendon Craig and Dawson Painter continued good offensive work. Craig had 5 RBIs on two homeruns. Painter had two RBIs on one homerun. Drew Camp also hit a homerun, but it wasn't enough in the Hurricanes 14-8 loss.

When action resumed on Sunday, the Hurricanes took an early 2-0 lead on a Trendon Craig sacrifice fly, but Spartanburg Methodist came back in the 3rdwith 4 runs—two of them earned—against Louisburg starting pitcher K.J. Wells. Spartanburg Methodist stretched the lead to 6-2 by the middle of the 5th. Louisburg was able to score two more runs, but eventually took the loss 7-4.

In the final game of the weekend Spartanburg Methodist had a 5 run 3rdand a 5 run 5thto win 14-1 after 5 innings. Louisburg only had three hits (Craig, Painter, and Phillip Boykin) as Ahmaad Goldson picked up the loss after 2.1 innings of work. Eric Anderson and Edmund Kayhko also took the mound failing to stop the Spartanburg Methodist offense.

The Hurricanes will take the field again on Saturday, March 14 against USC Lancaster for a 4 game series in South Carolina.
