Lady Bantams Defeat SMC in Doubleheader
Game 1:
Peyton Morris drove in four runs on two hits to lead USC Union past SMC 9-2 on Wednesday, April 5.
Morris hit a home run to left field in the third inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the sixth inning, scoring two.
The Lady Bantams were the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run.
Sophie Caley hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the second.
Three more USC Union runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the lead to 5-1.
Morris homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Caley doubled, scoring one run.
Brianna Compton earned the win for USC Union. The right-handed pitcher surrendered five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking one.
Matigan Nettles, Caley, and Morris each collected two hits for USC Union. The Lady Bantams turned one double play in the game. They were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Morris had the most chances in the field with six.
Game 2:
It came down to the wire in the second game, as USC Union grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 4-3, over SMC. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the seventh when DeAnna Sweat singled, scoring one run.
The Lady Bantams opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. USC Union first got on the board when Peyton Morrissingled, scoring one run. A single by Madison Goossens extended the USC Union lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning.
Brianna Compton earned the win for USC Union. The right-handed pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out one and walking one.
Morris began the game, giving up six hits and three runs over three innings, striking out two and walking none.
