GMC takes season opener against Spartanburg Methodist

The Georgia Military College Women's Soccer team opened up the 2018 season with a win against Spartanburg Methodist College. The first half was a back and forth affair as Adisa Nwawel opened the scoring for the Bulldogs in the 16th minute. Spartanburg Methodist then came back and tied the game at 1 with a goal from Elizabeth McGee in the 36th minute. This was short lived as Andrea Medrea, a freshman for the Bulldogs , scored her first collegiate goal less than a minute later in the 37th minute. Andrea also put the Bulldogs back in the lead for good by scoring her second goal of the game and putting the Bulldogs up 3-2 in the in the 43rd minute.

 

In the second half, GMC jumped on Spartanburg Methodist with two goals from Adisa Nwawel in the 49th minute and the 53rd minute. The two goals completed a hat trick for last years NJCAA leading scorer. With GMC up 5-2, Spartanburg Methodist fought back and scored two goals. One goal was scored by Adahi Alarcon in the 68th minute and the second goal was scored by Elizabeth McGee in the 75th minute. The Spartanburg comeback fell short, as sophomore Nicolina Boza scored in the final minute of play to give GMC a 6-4 victory over Spartanburg Methodist.

The GMC Women's Soccer team will be back in action as they take on the Catawba Reserve team tomorrow, Saturday, August 24th.
