Beach Volleyball Named Region Champs, Punches Ticket to Inaugural NJCAA National Tournament as #2 Seed

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College beach volleyball team moves to 17-6 overall after traveling to Pinehurst, North Carolina for the Region 10 Tournament Friday afternoon. As the #1 seed, Richard Bland received a quarterfinal round bye, and took on Gaston College in the semifinal round. The Statesmen came out victorious 5-0 over the Rhinos and earned a spot in the championship match. The 1st, 2nd, and 4th pairing secured the win for Richard Bland in the championship match defeating the Pioneers, 3-1 to be named Region 10 Champions and are headed to NJCAA Nationals.

 

In match one, the Statesmen pairs defeated Gaston College, 5-0.

Pairing 1: Sarah Heath and Karagyn Durco defeated the Rhinos 21-19, 18-21, and 15-11.

Pairing 2: Rylie Harris and Leilani Goggin defeated the Rhinos 21-13 and 21-6.

Pairing 3: Sophia Kaiser and Jadyn Brown defeated the Rhinos 21-12 and 21-9.

Pairing 4: Sydney Phillips and Morgan Green defeated the Rhinos 21-18 and 21-8.

Pairing 5: Georgia Alexander and Marisa Dunnavent defeated the Rhinos 21-11 and 21-13.

 

In match two, the Statesmen pairs defeated Spartanburg Methodist, 3-1.

Pairing 1: Sarah Heath and Karagyn Durco defeated the Pioneers 21-16, 13-21, and 15-10.

Pairing 2: Rylie Harris and Leilani Goggin defeated the Pioneers 17-21, 22-20, and 15-13.

Pairing 3: Sophia Kaiser and Jadyn Brown did not complete their match due to the Statesmen already picking up 3 wins.

Pairing 4: Sydney Phillips and Morgan Green defeated the Pioneers 21-23, 21-10, and 15-11.

Pairing 5: Marisa Dunnavent and Georgia Alexander lost to the Pioneers 19-21, 21-18, and 3-15.

 

The Richard Bland College beach volleyball team next prepares for the inaugural NJCAA National Tournament which will take place at Hickory Point Beach in Tavares, Florida April 20th-22nd.
