Women’s Soccer Ties with Pioneers

Score: CFCC 3, SMC 3

Location: North Campus Soccer Stadium - Castle Hayne, NC

Updated Record: 6-0-1

In Short: The Sea Devils tied against the Pioneers after a tough defensive battle within the midfield for both teams.

Highlights: After a well-fought contest between CFCC and the Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers, the Sea Devils finished the match in a 3-3 draw yesterday afternoon. The Sea Devils managed to control the tempo for most of the match while putting forth the most shots on goal between the two teams. However, the Pioneers capitalized on a key few defensive breakdowns in the Sea Devils' backfield and were able to keep the score close throughout. While the back line held their own for the majority of the match, the Sea Devils found it difficult to finish in fast-break scenarios and struggled to build up their attack to achieve numbers-up passing combinations.

Despite some of the offensive setbacks that occurred throughout the match, the Sea Devils were able to string together a few great runs to keep the Pioneers on their toes. Natalie Haldeman (Soph.) scored the first goal for the Sea Devils, assisted by a crucial cross from Mia Marino (Fr.). Hannah Miller (Fr.) persevered through the Pioneers' defensive coverage on the attacking side of the ball and was able to put one away early into the 2nd half, which was shortly followed by a skilled fast-break goal from Kristarae Poell (Soph.).

In addition to the normal gameday preparations, the Sea Devils had the opportunity to recognize both the Pioneers and the CFCC Sophomore classes with announcements and a pre-game on-field procession with graduating Sophomores and their families.

Up Next: The Sea Devils will travel to Axton, VA as they match up with Patrick Henry Community College for the second time this season on Friday, October 15 at 2 PM.
