Effort not enough to carry the Red Hawks past SMC, 4-2

Will Greene held up his end of the bargain, but Greene couldn't will the Red Hawks past Spartanburg Methodist as the Red Hawks lost 4-2 in seven innings at Spartanburg, SC on Sunday.

Spartanburg Methodist had no answer for Greene, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Greene held Spartanburg Methodist hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out two.

Brandyn Norton ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just three innings, walked two, struck out three, and allowed three runs.

In the bottom of the first, Spartanburg Methodist grabbed the early lead, 1-0. A solo home run started the inning off.

The lead stayed with Spartanburg Methodist after the fourth, when it scored two runs on another home run.

It didn't take long for Spartanburg Methodist to answer as it scored one run of its own in the sixth. Spartanburg Methodist scored on.
