Matt Williams to lead UNC-Wilmington's pitching staff

Matt Williams has stepped down as the Spartanburg Methodist Baseball Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator to become the Pitching Coach for the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks baseball program. UNCW is a member of the Colonial Athletic Conference, and just recently made a trip to the NCAA Regional Baseball Tournament. 

Williams (Lancaster, SC) who just completed his eighth season with the Pioneer coaching staff, helped lead the Pioneers to six Region X Championships and four trips to Grand Junction and the NJCAA World Series.

Under William's leadership the Pioneers have consistently led Region X in ERA and Opponents Average. In his seven seasons in the Pitching Coach position Williams has watched 28 players from his staffs advance to the NCAA Division I level, ten to the Division II ranks, two to NAIA ranks and ten move on to professional baseball. Five of his former pitchers are currently in pro ball working towards the Major Leagues.

Coach Williams also played for the Pioneers for two seasons earning a trip to the World Series in 2003. Williams tossed a no-hitter in the Region X Tournament during the 51-16 season.
