Baseball sweeps USC Sumter, moves into first place

SPARTANBURG, SC- Pioneer Baseball picks up four game sweep of USC Sumter and improves to 28-9 overall and 13-5 in Region X play, with the sweep SMC now moves into first place.

 

SATURDAYSMC Baseball sweeps USC Sumter, 8-1 and 6-4, in Saturday's Region 10 doubleheader. RHP Dylan Rogers (4 H, 1 R, 4 K, 3 BB, CG) produced his 4th complete of the season to pick up the win in Game 1. RHP Tripp Rollings (6 K, 5 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 5.1 IP) got the win in the second game while Josh Escoffier picked up the save.

Game one leading Hitters: Jason Garrett 3-3, HR, 2B, 5 RBI, R, BB; Collin Steagall 2-3, RBI, 2 R, BB; Zack Shields 1-3, 2 R, 3 SB.

Game two leading Hitters: Matt White 2-4, HR, RBI, R; Wesley Rogers 2-4, 2B, RBI, R; Collin Steagall solo HR. 

 

SUNDAYSMC Baseball completes the sweep of USC Sumter winning both games on Sunday, 6-2 and 10-6. Kyle Halbohn (0 ER, 6 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 4.1 IP) earned the win while Taylor Vetzel picked up the save in the first game. Hayden Heflin (2 H, 1 BB, 3.2 IP) got the game two win in relief. Collin Steagall smashed a grand slam over the batting cages behind the right field fence for his 4th home run of the season.

Game 1 leading hitters: Wesley Rogers 3-4, 3B, RBI, 2 R; Matt White 2-3, R, BB, SB; Jason Garrett 1-3, RBI.

Game 2 leading hitters: Thatcher Coleman 2-3, 2B, R; Kenard McDowell 2-3, 2B, R; Burris 2-3, 2 R, 2 SB; Collin Steagall grand slam; Matt White 2 RBI, triple.

The Pioneers will return to Mooneyham Field on Tuesday at 6 pm to play Rockingham CC.
