Baseball wins two more

KINSTON, NC- Winning a tournament is never easy, being in the losers breacket makes it even tougher. The Pioneers dropped into the losers bracket on day one of the 2014 Region X Tournament but have now won three straight games and are one of three teams left in the tourney. The Pioneers will play USC Sumter today at 3:00pm for the right to play in the tourney championship. SMC must win two games today to force the "if" game Wednesday against Louisburg College. 

 

SMC vs Guilford Tech  (9-5)

Micheal Wright picked up the win and improved his record to 5-1 on the season. Wright allowed four hits, struck out three, walked two in 5.1 IP. Josh Escoffier earned his second save of the year working 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.

SMC vs Pitt CC  (6-4) 10 innings

The Pioneers made it interesting but Jordan Garrett ended things in the 10th inning with a walk-off two run home run his fifth on the year. Taylor Vetzel (2 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 IP) entered the game in the sixth to pick up the win in relief and is now 5-1 on the season. Starter, Tripp Rollings, had a no-hitter going into the sixth.
