Pioneers run rule Lakeland CC 13-2

BRUNSWICK, NC- The Pioneer bats continued to pile up the runs in their first game on Tuesday. SMC scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to a 13-2 win in five innings over Lakeland CC and improved to 15-9 on the season.

Lakeland CC got on the board in the top of the first inning, scoring on a passed ball to take a 1-0 lead but that lead would be short lived. 

Anthony Dechiara (Robbinsville, NJ) singled to start the inning for SMC, he moved to third after a passed ball and a single by Ke' shaun Samuel (Darlington High). Dechiara scored on an error by Lakeland off the bat of Mason Berne (Topsail, NC) Jared McKay (Chamblee, GA) singled to drive in Samuel. Kijana Madden (Hillcrest High) followed with a single of his own to score Mason Berne (Topsail, NC).  Catcher Seth Wall (Georgetown High) continued to swing a hot bat with a single that scored McKay and Madden. Dominique Jackson (S. Gwinnett, GA) finished off the scoring with a three run bomb to make the score 8-1 after one inning.

Starting pitcher Hunter Baker (High Point Central, NC) worked three solid innings striking out seven and walking four. Patrick Mace worked two innings and allowed one hit with three strike outs in relief to earn the win.  

SMC would end the game by the ten run rule in the bottom of the fifth after a three run bomb by Berne.
