SMC Baseball takes first two against USC Salk

ALLENDALE, SC- SMC traveled to USC Salkehatchie Saturday for a Region X matchup. The Pioneers (18-10) swept the Indians and improved to 5-1 in Region X play. 

 

GAME ONE:

Sophomore right hander Tyler Thornton shut down the Indians as he tossed a complete game one hit shutout. Thornton struck out ten and carried a no hitter until Salk singled with two outs in the seventh inning. 

Anthony Dechiara singled home Seth Wall and Dominique Jackson in the top of the fifth inning to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.  Darshon Broadwater scored the Pioneers third run of the game in the seventh as he scored on a passed ball. 

Leading hitters:  Dechiara (1-3, 2 RBI, BB), Jackson (1-2, 2B, BB, R), Broadwater (1-2, 2B, BB, R)

 

GAME TWO

Anders Deshields and Blake Smith picked right up where Tyler Thornton left off in game one on the mound. Deshields picked up the win (5IP, 3K, 4H, 4BB, 1R) while Smith worked two innings in relief with four strike outs, one walk and only gave up one hit.

The Pioneer bats put up 10 runs in seven innings led by Alex Williams (3-3, 2RBI, R) Jared McKay (3-4, RBI, R), Anthony Dechiara (3-5, 3RBI, R) and Dallas Betsill (2-4, 2B, RBI, 2R).
