Baseball splits series with Pitt CC

GREENVILLE, NC- SMC Baseball traveled to Pitt Community College this weekend for a four game Region X series. The Pioneers and Bulldogs split the series with SMC winning game one and game three. SMC sits at 23-15 overall and 10-6 in Region X play. 

 

GAME ONE- (SMC- 8  Pitt CC- 4)

Lefty Anders DeShields tossed five shut out innings allowing only one hit while striking out six. SMC scored one run in the first, two in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the sixth.

GAME TWO- (Pitt CC- 4   SMC- 2)

Pitt CC came from behind to earn the game two win over SMC 4-2. Blake Smith worked 5.1 innings and struck out five while scattering seven Bulldog hits.

GAME THREE- (SMC-3   Pitt CC- 1)

SMC scored two runs in the top of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and take game three of the four game series. Reece Burnett worked 1.2 innings of no hit scoreless relief to earn the win. Starter Tyler Kimbrell tossed 5.1 innings of four hit ball while striking out three.

GAME FOUR- (Pitt CC- 5   SMC- 4) 

Pitt CC came from behind in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game up at 4-4 and forced extra innings. Pitt would score the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning with two outs to earn a split on the day. Henry Weiler worked 5.2 innings in relief scattering six hits and striking out four.

SMC will host Florence Darlington Tech this coming Friday and Saturday. Game times will be 1:00pm and 3:00pm for both days.
