Kevin Pucetas joins Pioneer Baseball Staff
SPARTANBURG, SC- Former Major Leaguer Kevin Pucetas has been hired as Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Spartanburg Methodist Pioneer Baseball program. Kevin is a native of Spartanburg, SC where he graduated with honors from Broome High School in 2002 and Limestone College in 2006. Kevin played an integral part in leading Limestone College to its first CVAC Conference title in 2005. The following year he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 17th round of the 2006 MLB draft.
In his first full season in professional baseball he won the MSP award for lowest ERA in all of the minor leagues while being named Starting Pitcher of the Year by MILB.com. The 2007 season helped springboard him into being selected to represent the 2008 USA Olympic team in the MLB Futures game at Yankee Stadium. Kevin also participated in the highly prestigious Arizona Fall League later that season and was named to the All-Prospect team. The following year he was able to start the AAA PCL All-star game in Portland, OR. He finally earned an invitation to MLB Spring training in 2009 and wound up spending 2010 on the MLB roster of the World Series Champion SF Giants. Just after the fall classic, he was traded to the Kansas City Royals and spent some time on their MLB roster as well in 2011. Kevin was fortunate enough to play for four different organizations (San Francisco, Kansas City, Washington, and Texas) and multiple countries in his 10 year career. He tallied a 75-44 with a 3.89 career record and was one of few players to be able to claim that they were named to an All Star team at every level of the minor leagues (A,AA, AAA). He also played on three championship winning teams along the way.
He spent much of his career being able to learn from multiple Hall of Fame coaches and several superstar players. He looks forward to bringing that knowledge and competitive edge to the SMC baseball program as the Pitching coach and Recruiting coordinator.
Kevin resides in Spartanburg, SC along with his fiancée Emma Marie.
