Baseball Opens up the Season with a Sweep

Spartanburg, SC – SMC started their season off with a sweep against the Patrick Henry Patriots. In game one of the weekend Jordan Jackson got his first win of the season with 7 strikeouts and giving up only 2 hits. Joey Tepper and Ward Hacklen led the team in game one going 2-3 and 2-4. Hacklen had 5 RBI's and first homerun of the season. Andrew Krauss also had 3 RBI's. In game two the Pioneers won 9-4 with Andrew Krauss once again standing out going 2-4. Houston Wright went 2-3 with a homerun, double, and 6 RBI's. Chad Brown got his first win of the season only allowing 2 hits in 4 innings. Game 3 was a closer one for the Pioneers with a score of 7-6. In the ninth inning SMC scored two runs and Joey Tepper had a walk-off to end the weekend with a sweep. Houston Wright went 2-3 with 1 RBI and Kobe Phillips went 1-3 with 2 RBI's and a homerun.

 

The Pioneers will play again Wednesday, February 6 for a double header against East Georgia State College at 1&3 at Mooneyham Stadium.
