Pioneers Win Double Header Against Louisburg College

Spartanburg, SC – Spartanburg Methodist Baseball opened up against Region X competition on March 10th versus fellow longtime member Louisburg College. The weekend schedule was shortened to just Sunday's double header due to rain that flooded Spartanburg on Friday and Saturday which caused the first 2 scheduled games to be cancelled.

SMC cruised to a win in Game 1 after scoring 2 runs in the first inning on a Houston Wright HR and then scoring 6 more over the next 4 innings. Jordan Jackson was dominant on the mound only allowing 2 hits and posting 10 strikeouts over his 6 innings of pitching, improving his record to 4-1 on the season. The Pioneers were led offensively by Rome Wallace with 4 hits in 4 at bats, including his first homerun of the year. Ward Hacklen also homered, his 3rd in 2019.

Game 2 was a pitcher's duel until the 6th inning. SMC led 2-0 at that point, courtesy of 2 solo homeruns by Joey Tepper. The Pioneers broke things open with 5 runs in the 6th inning thanks to a John Miller RBI single and then back-to-back homeruns from Tristan Shea and Andrew Krauss. Nate Lamb (2-1) threw a complete game 2-hitter with 3 base on balls and 9 strikeouts. With the sweep SMC improved to 10-7, 2-0.

SMC will host Nationally ranked Walters State in a double header on Wednesday, March 13th at 2:00pm. The Pioneers have also added a home game for Thursday, March 14th vs Cuyahoga Community College out of Ohio.
