SMC Wins Region Series against USC-Union

Spartanburg, SC – SMC Baseball played conference opponent, USC Union, Saturday and Sunday winning three out of the four games played. SMC now improves their record to 14-10 overall and 5-1 in the conference. On Saturday March 16th, both games verse USC Union were very similar. The Pioneers scored 12 runs in under five innings and held USCU to only one run scored between the two games on Saturday.  Houston Wright, John Miller, and Ward Hacklen shined offensively. Miller and Hacklen both had home runs of their own. Houston Wright now has five home runs and 30 RBI's on the year. Pitching for the Pioneers was Jordan Jackson and Nate Lamb who only gave up two hits the entire game, with Jordan giving up one run.

In Sunday's games with USC Union the Pioneers split, winning the first game 11-1 in 5 innings and in game two, lost 10-6. Ward Hacklen and Joey Tepper hit home runs during the the days game, while Tepper also had 5 RBIs on the day. Tepper brings his stats up to four home runs on the year with 21 RBIs overall. Pitching for the Pioneers were both Walt Thomas and Bradley Hughes. In Game two on Sunday, the Pioneers couldn't stop USC Union who had 16 hits to SMC's 8 in the 7-inning game.  Joey Tepper, Houston Wright, John Miller and Donald Hansis all batted runs in during the game.

The Pioneers move on and play Southeastern Community College – Whiteville away in a double header on Wednesday, March 20th. The next home game for the Pioneers will be March 26th where Southeastern CC – Whiteville will travel to Spartanburg for double header.
