Spartanburg, SC- The SMC Pioneers found themselves in a 2-0 hole after 2 batters in Game 1 of a DH vs Southeastern CC but rebounded in a big way scoring 5 runs in the 2nd and 5 more in the 4th. All 5 runs in the 2nd crossed after 2 outs with big hits coming from Rome Wallace, Joey Tepper, and Houston Wright. In the 4th Tepper again had a clutch hit, as did Andrew Krauss. While the offense was scratching out 12 runs, Charles Schaum (1-2) limited the Rams to 1 unearned run over 6 innings of work. Schaum allowed 1 BB and struck out 6. Tepper led the offense with 3 hits, including a 2B and HR, with 4 RBI's. Rome Wallace added 2 hits and 2 rbi's from the leadoff spot for the 'Neers.
In Game 2, Walt Thomas improved his record to 2-2 and Bradley Hughes picked up his first Save as the Pioneers won 4-3. Dosi Jonas swung the bat well in hitting his first HR of 2019 while Tepper again notched a couple of RBI's.
SMC improved to 16-12 on the year with the DH sweep.
The Pioneers travel to Allendale, SC this weekend for Region X matchups with USC-Salkehatchie. As always in Region play, there will be DH's Saturday and Sunday with games starting at 1:00 pm each day. SMC currently leads Region X with a 5-1 record in the league.
