Pioneers make move up NJCAA rankings, crack top ten nationally

Spartanburg Methodist College men's basketball moved up seven spots to #9 in this week's NJCAA Division 1 men's basketball national poll.  The Pioneers began the season ranked 16th in the preseason poll, but have gotten off to one of the best starts in school history with a 6-0 record.  The top ten ranking is one of the highest rankings in SMC's 101 year history.

"Once again, this is great recognition for our program, our school and our student-athletes," said head coach Jeff Brookman. "As a team, we don't pay much attention to rankings this early in the season. They just don't mean much. We want to focus on getting better every day as a team."

Dajohn Rowland (15.3), DaQuan Jeffries (13.4), Ronell Crockett (13.2) and Jalen Nesbitt (10.8) are all averaging double figure points for the Pioneers.  Ronell Crockett leads the team in rebounds per game with an average of 7.7, while Travis Black is averaging a team high 7.2 assists per game.
