Sophomore Jalen Nesbitt scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half to help lead the 9th ranked Pioneers to a 61-56 victory over Caldwell Community College. With the win, SMC improves to 8-0 on the season.
The Pioneers overcame their worst shooting night of the season, but got just enough stops to get the win. For the game, SMC shot just 39% from the field. Also in double figures for the Pioneers were Travis Black and Ronell Crockett. Black scored 11 points and dished out a team high 5 assists, while Crockett also scored 11 points. Nesbitt also pulled down a team high 7 rebounds.
"We did just enough to pull out the win," said head coach Jeff Brookman. "Caldwell did a good job of changing defenses the entire night. I think this game was good for us. We did not play our best but found a way to grind it out."
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday when they travel to take on Walters State Community College at 7 PM
