Pioneers Win Two During Weekend Road Trip

The #3 ranked SMC Pioneers improved to 24-0, 7-0 with two impressive road wins this past weekend. On Saturday, the Pioneers defeated Cape Fear 83-69.  Sophomore, Jalen Nesbitt led SMC with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Travis Black had a solid all-around game with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Also in double figures was Ronell Crockett with 11 points.

 

"Our bench came in and gave us a huge lift," said SMC head coach Jeff Brookman. "They were ready to play, gave us a lot of energy on the defensive end and made some plays offensively."

 

On Sunday, the Pioneers won their school record 24th straight game with a 77-59 win against Brunswick.  Sophomores Kelsey Terry and Jalen Nesbitt led the way for SMC. Terry scored a career high 26 points on 9-14 shooting from the field, which included 4-7 from long range.  Nesbitt recorded his second double-double of the week scoring 25 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

 

"Kelsey has been playing some of his best basketball," said head coach Jeff Brookman. "He is keeping things simple, playing under control and taking what the defense gives him. He is a very talented basketball player and great kid."

 

For the week, which included three games, Nesbitt averaged 19.7 points and 10 rebounds. The Pioneers return to action on Thursday when they host Clinton Junior College in Bridges Arena.  Thursday game will be a "Blue Out". The first 400 fans will receive a blue "Fear the Pioneer" t-shirt.  The women's game will start at 5:30 and the men at 7:30. Come out and Support the Pioneers!
