Men’s Basketball Releases 2013-14 Newcomers

Coming off a banner year that saw the Spartanburg Methodist men's basketball team go 35-1, win both the Region 10 Regular Season Championship and the Region 10 Tournament Championship and finish 1st in the Final NJCAA Top 25 poll, head coach Jeff Brookman has announced his newcomers for the 2013-14 season.

Jalin Alexander 6'1 185 FR Newberry, SC

"Jalin is one of the most talented guards that I saw all year in the state of SC. He is a strong, rim level athlete, has deep three point range and can get by defenders off the bounce. Jalin is capable of playing both the off guard and PG positions."

Kaheem Praylow 6'3 185 FR Newberry, SC

"Kaheem is a strong, skilled wing forward. He is very versatile and can play the 2,3 or 4. He will have the ability to beat defenders off the dribble, knock down open shots and post up smaller guards."

Nate Motley 6'0 165 FR Rock Hill, SC

"Nate was the starting PG for one of the best teams in the state of SC (Rock Hill HS). He is a very talented player that has a refuse to lose mentality on the court.  Nate has the ability to score the basketball in a number of ways. He adds quickness, athleticism and scoring to our backcourt."

Daniel Berends 6'9 240 FR Australia

"Daniel brings us some much needed size. He is an inside banger with great size, good skill and great feel for the game.  He will be an immediate presence in the paint and around the basket."

Jacob Carson 6'9 195 SO Ladson, SC

"Jacob comes to us after spending his Freshman year as a redshirt at North Carolina A&T and then taking a year off. He is a long inside athlete with good range to the FT line. Jacob will also add a shot blocking presence around the basket."

Arthur Framery 6'3 190 SO Paris, France

"Arthur comes to us from Mississippi Valley State where he played one year and then redshirted a year. He works and plays extremely hard.  I am very excited about his ability to shoot the ball from the three point line."

Allan Upton 6'7 210 SO Greer, SC

"Allan comes to us after spending his Freshman year at Region 10 foe Aiken Tech. On top of being a very smart player, he is a skilled wing/forward who can dribble, pass and shot the ball. He is familiar with Region 10 basketball."

Brannon Dark 6'4 190 FR Woodmont, SC

"Brannon is one of the most vertically gifted athletes that I have seen.  He works very hard on his game. Brannon gives us immediate help on the glass on both ends

of the court and gives us some much needed athleticism."

Sam Greene 6'5 195 FR Knoxville, TN

"Sam is a strong, skilled wing. He has the ability to dribble, pass and shoot the basketball. He is very hardworking and competitive on the court.  He is a big guard that can play multiple positions."

Haissan Handy 5'11 165 FR Anderson, SC

"Haissan is a true pass first PG. He has a gear with the basketball that you can not teach. What impressed me most about Haissan is his ability to pass with both hands with great efficiency. He makes others better with his unselfish play."

TJ Sheppard 5'11 165 FR North Augusta, SC

"TJ is an athletic guard who will provide us with the ability to score the basketball off the bounce and shooting the ball. He is another one that adds to the athleticism of our team. At 5'11 TJ can play at and above the rim."

Jeremy Summers 6'4 190 FR Newberry, SC

"Jeremy is a long run and jump athlete. His best basketball is ahead of him. He can score running in transition, off the bounce and with his back to the basket."

Tyler Wagner-Wilk 6'9 205 FR Rock Hill, SC

"Tyler brings us more length and athleticism around the basket. I think Tyler will improve more than any other player on our roster once we get him in the skill development workouts.  He has a nice touch around the basket and range to FT line."

Nathan Toutman 6'2 175 FR Greenville, SC

"Nathan is an all around skilled guard. He can put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways. Nathan is a good three point shooter, good off the bounce and an above average passer."

Michael Miller 6'1 175 FR Mauldin, SC

DJ Curry 6'0 170 FR Fox Creek, SC

Kian Lewis 6'1 180 SO Spartanburg, SC

Kelso Wright 5'9 165 FR Florence, SC

Tyus Gaines 5'9 160 FR Clemson, SC

Rashid McGriff 5'10 160 FR Fort Mill, SC

"We graduated a group of Sophomores that went 64-8 over the past two seasons. They will all be greatly missed," said head coach Jeff Brookman. "However, I am very confident and excited about this recruiting class. On top of being a talented group, they are all great fits for our College on and off the court."

The Pioneers return six players, but only one starter from last year's team (DaQuan Jeffries 6'6 SO F) and will have to replace nine of their top ten players.  The Pioneers open the season with the Pioneer/Swanny Classic November 1 – 3.
