#23rd Ranked Pioneers Continue Winning Streak

The Spartanburg Methodist men's basketball team continued its winning ways improving to 11-2 with two wins over the weekend. With the two wins, the Pioneers have now won six straight games.  On Saturday, SMC defeated Northern Virginia Community College by a score of 74-72. After a sluggish first half that saw the Pioneers down 11 points at the half, SMC regrouped and pulled out a late win in the final minutes. The Pioneers were led by Freshman Jalin Alexander who scored 20 points. Alexander was 5-10 from the three point line on the night. DaQuan Jeffries recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Also in double figures was TJ Sheppard with 10 points.  Freshman Jacob Carson added a career high 8 rebounds.

 

On Sunday, the Pioneers beat host school Davidson County Community College by a score of 86-77.  The 77 points by DCCC was their lowest offensive output of the season. They had been averaging over 100 points per game. Sophomore DaQuan Jeffries had a huge night with 23 points and a career high 16 rebounds. Freshman Jalin Alexander continued his scoring ways with 22 points (4-8 from three point line). Also in double figures were Freshmen TJ Sheppard and Nate Motley. TJ poured in 17 points while Nate Motley had a great all-around game with 16 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds.

 

"I am very proud of the guys," said SMC head coach Jeff Brookman. "I think we are headed in the right direction. We have to continue to get better every day and continue to focus on the process."

 

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday when they host Roane State. Game time is slated for 7PM.
