Men's Basketball overcomes slow start

SPARTANBURG, SC- The Pioneer men's basketball team faced off with Roane State Community College on Thursday eveing in Bridges Arena.

SMC came out sluggish to start the game and trailed the Raiders 27-10 with 8:36 to play in the first half. A scoring surge keyed by solid defense and rebounding helped SMC go on a 25-11 run to end the half with the Pioneers only trailing 38-35.

Both teams traded baskets throughout the second half until a 7-0 Pioneer run late in the game keyed by a Brannon Dark (14 points) three point play and a layup by Nate Motley. SMC held off the Raiders in the final minutes to improve to 12-1 overall with a 77-70 win. Marquise Simuel led the Pioneers with 24 points

SMC will travel to Louisburg College on Saturday to face off with the Hurricanes (11-0). Game time is 4:00pm.
