SPARTANBURG, SC- SMC knocked off Region 10 leader USC Salkehatchie in convincing fashion Wednesday night, 80-64, to pull within a game of first place. The Pioneers (17-8, 3-3) led by as many as 24 in the second half.

Sophomore point guard Nate Motley (Hampton, VA / Rock Hill High) led the Pioneers with 19 points with 12 coming in the second half. Marquise Simuels (Columbia, SC / AC Flora High) added 16 while Malik Gaffney (Gaffney, SC / Blacksburg High) pitched in 12 points. Eleven Pioneers contributed in the scoring column.

SMC will travel to Clinton Junior College on Saturday. Game time is 3:00pm. The Pioneers will return to Bridges Arena on Tuesday. Tip off against Caldwell Community College will be 7:00pm.
