Men's Basketball Head Coach Jeff Brookman resigns

SPARTANBURG, SC. - Jeff Brookman resigned on Monday as the Pioneer Men's Basketball Coach to take over the basketball program at Anderson University.

Brookman, who served as an associate head coach with the Trojans from 2006-2010, returns to the Anderson to replace Jason Taylor. Taylor resigned earlier this month to accept an assistant coaching position at Tennessee Tech.

After moving on to Spartanburg Methodist from AU in 2010, Brookman averaged 24 wins per season over the last five years at the helm of the Pioneers' program, compiling a 120-42 record in Spartanburg. For his efforts, Brookman earned back-to-back Region X Coach of the Year accolades in 2012 and 2013. He guided SMC to a 19-11 overall record last season, including a 5-5 mark in NJCAA Region 10. Two seasons ago, the Pioneers went 18-12 and earned a berth in the Region X Tournament semifinals where they were upended by host Brunswick.

In just his second year as head coach, Brookman led the Pioneers to one of the best seasons in school history after finishing 29-7 overall and 12-2 in Region X.

During the 2011-2012 season, the Pioneers won the Region X Regular Season Championship, a Region X Tournament Championship and made an appearance in the 16-Team NJCAA National Tournament for the first time since 1999. The Pioneers made it as far as the Elite Eight by edging perennial JUCO power, Three Rivers, 61-58.

The 2012-2013 campaign proved to be SMC's most memorable, as Brookman led SMC to the best season in school history and a No. 1 ranking in the final NJCAA Top 25 Division 1 National Poll, with a stellar 35-1 record, as the lone blemish was a close loss to eventual national champion College of Central Florida. The Pioneers finished the regular season with a perfect 30-0 overall record and went 12-0 in Region X play. For their efforts, the Pioneers were crowned the Region X Regular Season Champions for the second straight year. SMC also went on to win the Region X Tournament Championship for the second straight year.
