Pioneers Win Their First Region Game

The Region 10 home-opener for Men's Basketball was a success as they played host to Caldwell Tech. After getting out to a 12-2 start, a stretch in which the Pioneers got 7 stops in the first 8 possessions, Caldwell continued to fight as the two teams traded baskets for the rest of the first-half. SMC gained momentum going into the locker room 35-32 after a Colton Cashaw basket to end the half. Things began to heat up for the Pioneers in the second half as they went on yet another scoring run, only this one extended their lead to 20 points with 9 minutes left before the Cobras eventually got it back to as close as 7 with four-minutes left.  "We have to do a better job of closing games out when we get a significant lead. This has been the third or fourth game this season when we've seen a 20-plus point lead be brought back to single digits." Coach Nori Johnson said about his team holding on-to the lead in the second-half. However, the Pioneers secured their first Region 10 win by defeating Caldwell 75-62.
