SMC Men's Basketball Defeats Morris, 80-72

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Spartanburg Methodist College men's basketball team quickly erased a one-point halftime deficit with a 7-2 spurt to start the second half on its way to an 80-72 win over Morris College on Monday night.

 The Pioneers (7-12, 4-2 CAC) withstood a late rally by the Hornets. Four Pioneers scored in double figures including Bryan Bayonne, who had a game-high 25 points in the win. He was joined in double digits by Kelton Teasley (14), Tavarez Lacey (12), Isaac Gray (11). Lacey also had 11 rebounds for a double double in the win.

The Hornets picked up 21 points from Darjawuan Brown, 19 more from Rashad Simmons and 12 from Zion Green. Morris made it a two-point game on a put back attempt by Green with 1:14 left in the game.

Teasley and the Pioneers broke the Fisher press for a layup and Bayonne made a pair of free throws to seal the win for SMC.

Next, SMC will travel to Boston on Friday to face Washington Adventist at 2 p.m. for another CAC matchup. Then, they will face host Fisher on Saturday at 2 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.
