Men's Golf Opens Season Against Tough Field at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, TN -- The SMC men's golf team opened its spring season over the weekend with a 15th place finish at the Tusculum College Spring Invitational.

The Pioneers posted a two-day combined score of 613, +45 over par on the 6,763-yard course at Links Hills Country Club.

Sophomore Cole Pierce (Brookland-Cayce High School) shot SMC's top finish, with a two-day combined 152 (79, 73, +10).

SMC finished behind the two NJCAA Region X opponents in the tournaments, USC Lancaster and Tri-County Tech, dropping from a 12th place finish in Round 1 at 310.

The SMC men's golf team will next play on Mar. 21-22 at the Montreat Spring Invitational at Glen Cannon Golf Club in Brevard, NC.

Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia.

The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment this August. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
