Pioneer Golfers win first tourney
The Spartanburg Methodist College Men's golf team hosted the SMC Fall One-day Invitational on Saturday at Three Pines Country Club in Woodruff SC. The event was scheduled to be 18 holes, but had to be shortened to only 9 because a strong thunderstorm came through and cancelled play.
The Pioneers won the rain-shortened event with a 9 hole total of 150 to edge Bryan College by 3 shots. Travis Smith from Ninety Six, SC led the Pioneers with an even par 36 to finish 3rd individually.
Tom Durbin from Bryan College won the event with a 2-under par 34.
The Pioneers also edged USC-Lancaster by 5 shots to win back the SC JUCO Cup from USC Lancaster. The SC JUCO Cup was started by former SMC AD Mark Perdue as a match between SMC, USC-L, and Tri County Technical College. USC-L had held the cup for the previous 3 matches.
