Herd Makes All-Region Team

The SMC Men's Golf Team competed in the NJCAA District IV Championship this past Monday and Tuesday at Stonebridge Golf and Country Club in Albany, GA.  The Pioneers battled rainy and windy conditions to place 10th in the field.  The tournament consisted of 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

The All-Region team was determined after the first 36 holes, and freshman Briar Herd fired rounds on 75-73 to finish 4th in the region to earn All-Region honors.  Freshman Bernie McShane shot rounds of 75-77 to miss out on All-Region by 2 shots.

The final 18 holes was paired with the first 36 on Monday to determine who would be representing the district in the national championship.  The Pioneers fell short of making the national championship finishing 10th when only the top 6 schools qualified for next event.  This was the Pioneers final event for the season.

The final scores for the Pioneer golfers were:

Bernie McShane:  75-77-77

Briar Herd:  75-73-82

Travis Smith: 84-79-78
