Pioneer Men Win First Ever NCAA Tournament at Emmanuel College

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA- The Spartanburg Methodist College men's golf team accomplished something no other team has done before at SMC, a NCAA tournament title. As the only junior college in the event, the Pioneers fired rounds of 291 and 301 to tie Union College of Kentucky. A playoff ensued, and Briar Herd made a timely birdie on the first playoff hole to ensure a victory for the Pioneers. Bernie McShane paced the Pioneers with rounds of 67-75=142. McShane birdied four of his final five hole on day one to shoot the lowest score for the Pioneers in over five years.

"I am so proud of these five young men. They play as a team and the victory in this event was a huge accomplishment for our program" says Coach Kyle Owings.

Sophomore Jack Alexander fired rounds of 75-78=153. Freshman Evan Runion played solidly both days with rounds of 75-76=151. Freshman Brady Trout had a solid 74 in round one to help secure the lowest one day score for the Pioneers in over six years.

The Pioneers return to action in October at the Saint Andrews Fall Invitational
