SMC Competes at Anderson University Invitational

ANDERSON, SC., The Men's and Women's Golf Team competed in the Anderson University Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. SMC fielded 9 freshman and only one sophomore. Freshman Brandon Hill led the Pioneers with a consistent 76-76=152 and a top ten finish. The Pioneers finished sixth in the team portion, ahead of Bob Jones University, Emmanuel College, Belmont Abbey(B), and Southern Wesleyan University.  Anderson University won the team portion and former Pioneer Bernie McShane just missed out on winning the event, losing in a playoff to Adam Lumley of Mars Hill University. Other SMC scores: Zach Herold 77-78=155 Bryce Miley 77-81=158 Josh Rhyne 81-80=161 Matthew Terry 85-80=165

 On the women's side, Brooke Hutto was the lone standout for the Pioneers. In just her first college event, Hutto fired rounds of 85-82=167 to finish in 13th place overall for the event. Lincoln Memorial University won the event in the team portion and Makalyn Poole of Anderson University won the event individually. "I am proud of certain players and aspects of both teams, but we need to continue to improve, to compete in NCAA events going forward" concluded Head Golf Coach Kyle Owings.

The Pioneers will return to action in two weeks at the Tusculum College Fall Invitational in Greeneville, TN.
