SPARTANBURG, S.C. – An offensive onslaught that saw three-different goal scorers and a stingy defense were the recipe for success as the Spartanburg Methodist College men's soccer team recorded its second shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Toccoa Falls College on Thursday.
Playing in a little bit of precipitation, the Pioneers controlled the possession for most of the contest as they had a 16-2 advantage in shots. Along with the advantage in shots, SMC was able to place a few balls in the back of the net when Brandon Porras and Will Waters scored a pair of first half goals for the early lead.
To go along with a 2-0 lead at the break, the ball found itself mainly on the SMC side of the pitch as rain started to fall. The attack for the Pioneers did not give up and kept the visitors from getting many opportunities. Late in the contest, Brandon Serna added the final goal of the contest for the final margin.
SMC goalkeeper Francesco Molinar had a pair of saves for his second shutout of the season. The win raises the record for the Pioneers to 2-3-1.
