Men’s Tennis Takes Region Title, Qualifies for Nationals

LANCASTER, SC -- The SMC men's tennis team (2-7) posted their biggest win of the season Saturday with a 6-3 upset over USC Lancaster, to take the Region X title and qualify for the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Tournament in May.

The women's team played competitive a match, but took a 2-7 loss against USCL and are now 0-7 for the season.

In doubles play, the SMC men won each of their matches; sophomores Trent Jackson and Matt Kennamer each won their singles matches.

The men's and women's teams each won a doubles and singles match by default.

"The men's team is playing very well and has steadily improved throughout the season.  We have played an extremely tough schedule to prepare for the national tournament.  We still have seven matches left in the season and hope to continue to improve and win each match," says coach Rodney McAllister.
 
"The women's match against USC Lancaster was our most competitive match of the year.  Each player has made vast improvements in the development of their game.  I was very pleased with their performance in this match," he adds.
 
The men's team next plays Presbyterian College on the road on April 8. Both teams will play road matches against Lenoir-Rhyne College on April 11.

The NJCAA men's national tournament will be held May 10 – 14 in Plano, TX.

Spartanburg Methodist College is in its 99th year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment.  More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
