Pioneer Tennis Comes Up Short During Long Weekend

CONYERS, GA – The SMC tennis teams both suffered on-the-road losses over the weekend, with two close matches on the men's side.

The men's team opened the weekend with a 4-5 loss against Grand Rapids Community College, a score they repeated Sunday against Oxford of Emory College. The SMC men's team is now 1-5 for the season

The women's team posted a 0-9 match against Oxford of Emory College on Sunday, and are 0-4 for the season.

Scoring for the Lady Pioneers in singles play were Melissa Williams vs. Vyigo Lakshmipathy and Brittany James vs. Joyce Juang, both winning one set each.

In doubles play against Oxford, SMC's pair of Matt Kennamer  and Aubrey Johnson won 8-2.

In singles, Trent Jackson (SMC) defeated Roy Patel (OE) 6-4, 1-6, 6-2; Kennamer (SMC) defeated Adam Graham (OE) 7-5, 6-2; and Johnson (SMC) defeated Tha Nguyen (OE) 4-6, 6-4, 1-0(6).

Scoring for the Pioneers in doubles against Grand Rapids were Pedro Cunha and Jackson, who defeated Keaton Briggs and Connor Gosset (GR)  8-4.

In singles, Cunha (SMC) defeated Keaton Briggs (GR) 2-6,6-4, 6-3; (SMC) defeated Connor Gossett (GR) 7-5, 7-5; and Kennamer (SMC) defeated Freddie Carlson (GR) 6-2, 6-3.
