Pioneers Post First Win of Season

COLUMBIA, SC -- The SMC Pioneers men's tennis team picked up their first win of the season Thursday against Benedict College

The Pioneers posted a 6-3 win against the NCAA Division II Tigers.

Singles:

Matheus Barcela - loss, 2-6, 1-6
Corey White - win, 6-3, 6-0
Troy Lanford - win, 6-4, 6-3
Josh Lawton - loss, 6-1, 2-6, 8-10
David Manley - win, 6-2, 6-1
Stephen Higginbotham - win, 6-2, 6-2

Doubles:

Barcela-Lawton - loss, 3-8
White-Lanford - win, 8-3
Manley-Higginbotham - win, 8-2

The Pioneers will next take on Emmanuel College at 3 om on March 3rd at SMC's Buchheit Tennis Complex.

Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The College is in its 100th academic year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
