Men's Tennis 1-1 For Day Against Junior College Opponents

SPARTANBURG - The SMC Pioneers men's tennis team picked up its second win of the season on Saturday during a set of matches against NJCAA opponents.

SMC vs. Oxford of Emory

The Pioneers picked off Region 17 junior college Oxford of Emory, with an 8-1 win.

Five out of six of the Pioneer players won their respective matches.

Troy Lanford - 6-2 win, 6-2 win
David Manley - 6-1 win, 6-1 win
Stephen Higginbotham - 6-1 win, 6-0 win
CJ Freeman - 3-6 loss, 1-6 loss

Doubles - 3-0, 8-3

SMC vs. Harford Community College

SMC fell later in the afternoon 7-2 to Harford Community College, a Region 20 junior college out of Maryland.

Both Higginbotham and White put points up for SMC against Harford in what coach Marcus Sarstrand described as "great matches."

The Pioneers men's tennis team next plays on Tuesday, Mar. 22 at 2 pm when it will host Benedict College at SMC's Buchheit Tennis Complex.

Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The College is in its 100th academic year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
