Pioneer Tennis ranked 11th by ITA

SPARTANBURG, SC., ITA ranked the SMC Men's Tennis team 11th in the country after their impressive fall season and the Pioneers are poised for a great run in the spring.

"We are looking to have even better year than last year when we finished 14th in the country said Zach Williams, Head Tennis Coach. The Pioneers, with a strong recruiting class of South Carolina freshmen are ready to advance up the rankings and back to the NJCAA National Championships.

Adam Elliget (Summerville) finished his senior year at #5 in the state rankings, Hufelder Duarte (West Ashley) finished at #6, Zack McCullough was top 10 before having labrum surgery this past year, and Austin Green (Byrnes) who was a four time all-region player and selected for the North/South All-star competition his senior year, lead a talented group of freshman that have joined returning sophomores Dalton Hendrix (Boiling Springs), Keith Quick II (West Florence), and Mouhamed Gueye of Richmond, VA.

Individually, the Pioneers have several members who are reconized in the ITA Fall rankings. Adam Elliget is the #6 singles player, and Gueye #44. A. Elliget and Duarte are the #11 doubles team and JT Elliget(Summerville) and Gueye are #24.

January 30th will kick off the Pioneers spring season against The Citadel. That starts a tough string of NCAA D1 teams including College of Charleston at home on January 31,  at Wofford February 10, and at Presbyterian February 24.
