Recap: Men's Tennis vs Belmont Abbey College

Spartanburg, SC. - The SMC Men's Tennis team hosted Belmont Abbey College on Tuesday March 21 at SMC. The match was highlighted by a deciding third set tiebreaker at number 2 singles between SMC's Austin Green and Belmont's Joseph Horne. Horne won the first set 6-2, was up 5-3 in the second only to have Green save 5 match points and get the match to a deciding third set by winning the set 7-5. In the tiebreaker, Horne led 9-6, only again to have Green fight back and save multiple match points. Green would also have 2 match points, but would eventually lose by a final score of 16-14.
Belmont Abbey went on to win the dual match by a final score of 7-2. SMC again was led by singles and doubles winner Hufelder Duarte at both #1 positions. The #1 doubles team of Duarte /Green continued their stellar play on the season with an 8-3 victory over Reddy/Diaz. At #1 singles, Duarte used to steady game plan to grind his way to a routine 6-4, 6-2 victory over Nikhil Reddy.
