Record Setting Year Continues for SMC Track & Field

Day one of the meet was all distance events as the Pioneers participated in the steeplechase, 1500m and 5000m. On the day, they walked away with 6 new personal bests and an improvement on the second fastest steeplechase in school history. Outhous was just 4.5 seconds off of the NJCAA National Standard with her 12:20.59.

Day two hosted all sprint and mid-distance events, and the pioneers continued to look strong. The Pioneers had 11 new personal bests and three performances in the top 10 in school history. Romeo Brown had the first sub-11 100 meter dash at SMC since 2022, and improved upon the 3rd place in school history mark. He later set the second fastest 200m dash in school history, improving upon his personal best by over half a second. The women’s 4 x 800 meter squad of Mariela Velazquez, Averi Vance, Alondra Velazquez, and Bella Sheilds posted the 4th fastest mark in school history, an event that will be contested as they move to the NAIA next season.
